VISAKHA DAY 2019

"THE LIGHT OF ONE CANDLE CAN LIGHT A THOUSAND"

MAY 18, 2019

For the lunar meditation in the month of May, Peace Point Meditation held a very special event in honor of the Visakha Puja (Vesak) holiday. This holiday commemorates the life of the historic Buddha and marks the anniversary of the Buddha’s birth, enlightenment, and passing into Nibbana. The attendees participated in generosity and mindfulness activities. They included alms-giving, spreading loving-kindness, paying homage to the Triple Gem, and candle lighting.

The meditation session focused on sharing metta, or loving-kindness, and candle lighting allowed us to hold a vigil for world peace and inner peace. Practicing meditation together among so many cultures and attendees highlights the great unity and happiness an individual can bring to oneself and others from sharing inner light and peace. “The light of one candle can light a thousand” was the theme for this Visakha Day event, and we hope we can all continue to gently practice sharing our lights and peace with the world day by day.

Due to the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak, all public events are suspended until further notice. Click here for schedule of live online sessions.

Be safe and stay mindful!
